THE STORY

About Somnia

Somnia is a consumer-focused Layer 1 blockchain designed to support large-scale, real-time applications and digital experiences.

Challenge

Somnia wanted its token distribution to do more than deliver SOMI to eligible users. As a consumer-focused Layer 1, the team wanted the airdrop to encourage users to return regularly, complete activities and engage with applications across the ecosystem.

Inspired by the contribution-based model Clique had built for Plume, Somnia designed the majority of its allocation around continued participation. Only 20% would be available on Day 1. The remaining 80% would need to be earned progressively through weekly activity.

The system also introduced a clear time constraint. Users had eight weekly portions available to unlock, but only three months to complete the required activities. Any rewards left unearned after that deadline could be reclaimed by the Somnia Foundation.

At the same time, the claim experience needed to work on Somnia mainnet without requiring users to already own and bridge SOMI simply to pay for gas.

Solution

Clique built a registration and claim system around Somnia’s participation-based distribution model.

The registration portal combined an eligibility checker with social verification modules for Steam, X and Discord, allowing Somnia to connect eligible wallets with relevant user identities and community accounts.

For claims, 20% of each eligible allocation was made liquid on Day 1. The remaining 80% was divided into eight portions, with users able to qualify for 10% of their total allocation each week by completing the required ecosystem activities. While the program was structured around eight weeks of tasks, users had a twelve-week window to earn those contingent rewards. Any portion that remained unearned after the three-month deadline could be reclaimed by the Foundation.

Clique also integrated its paymaster service to support gasless claims on Somnia mainnet. Without it, users would have needed to already own SOMI and bridge it to mainnet before they could interact with the claim contracts.

The broader distribution design also incorporated Somnia’s flagship NFT. The team wanted holders to bridge the asset from Ethereum to Somnia and couple that action with the paymaster system so users could receive SOMI automatically once the NFT had been bridged.

Results

Clique gave Somnia the infrastructure to turn a predominantly locked airdrop into a time-bound participation system.

Rather than making the full allocation available through a one-time claim, the distribution connected 80% of each user’s rewards to recurring ecosystem activity across an eight-week program, while the paymaster removed the gas barrier to claiming on Somnia mainnet.

The resulting system combined eligibility, social verification, contingent unlocks and gasless claims within a single distribution experience.
